The Cost of Moving - BOYD

The Cost of Moving

June, 2021

So what does it cost to move? It depends on several factors, the three main ones are usually:

  1. The number of possessions you have.
  2. Your moving budget.
  3. Any extra services, such as storage or packing.

We will provide you with a virtual estimate on the cost for your move, whether it be local, long-distance or international. During the virtual estimate, we can assess your situation to get an idea of your requirements.

Every Move is Different

Since every move is unique let us provide some general guidelines on the cost of moving.

Local moves are charged by the hour and all hourly rates and associated costs are provided upfront so there are no surprises.

House or Apartment?

A one-bedroom apartment will naturally have less furniture and collectibles than a four-bedroom house. This will generally speed up the move. Moving less weight takes less time, which costs less.

Apartments do present a unique challenge in some cases with wait times for the elevator or narrow stairwells that take time to navigate safely. During our virtual assessment, we will consider these factors before providing a quote.

Staying in the City

As trusted movers in Ottawa since 1947, we know how to get your precious belongings to your new home safely.

Moves within the city limits are charged by the hour and this cost is presented upfront after one of our professionals assesses your move requirements during our in-person quote.

Moving to Another Province

We’ve been providing dependable long-distance moving services since 1947.

Unlike local moving, long-distance moving isn’t a charge by the hour. Instead, an estimate is provided based on the distance of the move and the total weight of your household items. It is important to pack everything very well to ensure that fragile items stay in one piece for the trip.

Other Service

A mover can not only help you physically move your belongings to your new home: they can help with packing too. This can be really beneficial to take on this extra service if you are concerned about fragile items during the journey to your new home.

We can help with packing and crating too. Our professionals know how to get your things to their new destination intact. Our supplies are designed to prevent breakage of fragile items and this all comes down to how they are packed and if the items are packed with products designed to transport fragile possessions such as glass or electronics.
