Video: Boyd Gives Back by Helping Mission Thrift Store with a Free Move

September, 2019

Boyd has been a part of the Ottawa landscape since 1947, and we’ve always felt it’s important to give back to the community.

When we heard that Mission Thrift Store needed help moving to a new, larger location we knew we had to help. You can find out all about it below:

How We Connected

Krista Valenta, assistant manager of the Mission Thrift Store, explains why she reached out to us.

“We’d been at the Merivale location for about 10 years. It was an older building behind a gas station, and it was also hard to find, as it wasn’t very visible from the road.”

The new location is in Bell’s Corners. “The Salvation Army store is right next door, so it’s a great destination for thrifters,” says Krista.

She explains that she had contacted a number of moving companies for quotes on her very large move. “Boyd came back and said they’d like to donate their services for us, and that was just so wonderful.”

Dave Dubue, sales manager at Boyd, commented, “This is a great opportunity to give back to our community.”

Boyd’s team provided the truck and labour to move hundreds of clothing racks, displays, and boxes of goods. The clothing racks were all protected with shrink wrap before the move. The move took two days, but the Mission Thrift Store needed another week to set up the new store for the grand opening.
